The program, Certified Tidal Angling Guide (TAG) – a provincial certification issued by the Industry Training Authority, was developed over the course of nearly 4 years in collaboration with numerous stakeholders and organizations including: • SFI, Experienced guides and Guide Associations • go2 - the resource for people in tourism and the Industry Training Authority (ITA) • Fisheries and Oceans Canada • Transport Canada • BC Ministry of Environment • BC Ministry of Tourism, Innovation and Jobs • First Nations representatives • Lodge owners • Independent anglers The CTAG program establishes best practices and standards for the estimated 2,000 saltwater guides in the province ensuring the highest level of customer service and safety standards.
Experienced guides need only to provide evidence of 750 hours guiding experience and verification of all Transport Canada required courses and will then be eligible to challenge the certification.
