Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands are legendary with salmon anglers evoking quiet smiles and far away looks from experienced anglers. But more than salmon fishing awaits you here. Imagine snorkeling down the Campbell River among schooling chinook salmon on a sunny fall day. Or reflecting back on the natural wonders you saw on a local whale watching and wildlife tour. Vancouver Island is home to all five species of salmon.

• Pursue chinook, mighty halibut and other species on the famous Big Bank and other offshore areas near Bamfield, Ucluelet and Tofino.
• For big yelloweye rockfish (red snapper) or lingcod, fish in the wilderness area of Nootka Sound or Port Hardy.
• Drop a line in one of the many coves or bays around the Gulf Islands.
• Take a short trip from Tofino to Clayoquot Sound, and try fly fishing for salmon. There's a highly successful new saltwater fly fishery that has been developed over the past few years.

• Throughout the region, catch rockfish, flounder and lingcod, and revel in the thrill of pursuing giant halibut that can reach 45 kg (100 lb) or more.
